Payabli
Streamlining DevOps with AWS
Problem / NEED
Payabli sought out Basis to move their on-premise infrastructure onto the cloud in order to reduce costs and improve manageability. Their existing setup required all manual work, making it difficult to scale efficiently. Additionally, their deployment process was not optimized, leading to inefficiencies in managing and deploying applications.
At that time, Payabli was using Docker Hub for image hosting, and many of their existing DevOps processes were not integrated with AWS. Basis helped Payabli transition onto AWS seamlessly by developing a migration strategy that leveraged AWS services while maintaining familiar workflows.
Solution
To begin Payabli’s transition onto the cloud, we implemented a lift-and-shift migration strategy that minimized disruption. We used AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) to migrate their data from on-premises systems to AWS, making the transition onto AWS smooth.
To automate and manage infrastructure provisioning, we implemented Terraform as an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solution, allowing for more consistent and scalable deployments. This was further integrated with GitHub Actions to automate infrastructure updates and deployments, creating an efficient and repeatable DevOps workflow.
Initially, we migrated Payabli’s workloads to Amazon Elastic Load Balancer (ELB) to handle traffic distribution and optimize resource utilization.
However, as Payabli’s cloud strategy evolved, we transitioned them to Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS), which provided them with a more scalable and reliable containerized environment. This shift allowed for greater flexibility in managing workloads and improved deployment efficiency.
RESULTS
Reduced Infrastructure Costs
Migrating from on-premises to AWS optimized Payabli’s cloud resource usage and lowered infrastructure expenses by 45% every month.
Streamlined Application Deployments
The integration of Terraform and GitHub Actions enabled automated infrastructure management and deployments, eliminating manual configurations.
Improved Scalability and Manageability
The move to ECS from ELB allowed for better container orchestration, which improved resource allocation and significantly reduced scaling time from weeks to minutes.
Basis helped Payabli transition to a cloud-native architecture that was cost-efficient, scalable, and easier to manage. Their new infrastructure not only reduced overhead but also enhanced their ability to deploy applications quickly and reliably, ensuring long-term operational success.
