Problem / NEED
While recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and preparing to take their product publicly, Happy Ring faced the challenge of an outdated infrastructure which failed to remain stable and hindered their ability to obtain real-time results from proprietary HPY data directly from the ring, posing significant risk to the success of the company.
Happy partnered with Basis to overhaul their infrastructure, develop the backend API endpoints of their application, and create the data ingestion pipeline, datalake, and machine learning infrastructure to produce health and wellness reports for ring users.
Solution
Basis initiated a complete overhaul of Happy’s backend and infrastructure.
This included the restructuring of its architecture and migrating it to a more stable, dynamic, and reproducible AWS infrastructure. We also developed all backend API endpoints and that support Happy’s mobile application, enabling it to log in, collect activities and interactions information and capture data from the phone and ring.
Additionally, we created Happy’s Data and Machine Learning processes and infrastructure. This involved developing an ingestion pipeline that takes the original data file from the ring, compresses and encodes a day’s worth of data into a parquet file that sits on an S3 datalake.
RESULTS
Following a successful implementation, Happy Ring’s data processing speed and real-time results retrieval saw significant improvements.
We were able to benchmark the system to scale effortlessly to handle over 10,000 concurrent connections. Sleep reports were calculated and delivered within 1-2 minutes of users waking up, far outperforming one competitor’s ring which takes an hour for delivery. The upgraded infrastructure, backend API endpoints, and data and machine learning solutions resulted in seamless and fast operations and has established Basis as a premier technology partner.
